Origin Story: Traditionally Made Hogenakkal Dry Fish Masala
In the river lands of Hogenakkal, where the Kaveri flows wild and free, the tradition of preparing and preserving fish has been passed down for generations. During seasons of abundance, the day’s catch would be carefully cleaned, sun-dried under the open skies, and stored — to be enjoyed in the months ahead.
But the real magic lay in the masala — a bold, earthy blend of native chillies, roasted spices, and hand-pounded herbs — designed to enhance the rich flavour of dry fish. Every home had its own secret mix, ground in stone grinders, lovingly perfected over time.
Inspired by this age-old tradition, I bring you the Traditionally Made Hogenakkal Dry Fish Masala Powder — crafted with care, stone-ground in small batches, and free from artificial colours or preservatives.

1️⃣ Soak & Clean – Soak dry fish in hot water for 15 minutes, remove the head, and clean thoroughly.

2️⃣ Sauté – Heat 2 tbsp sesame oil in a pan, add tempering ingredients and chopped small onion. Sauté for 2 minutes.

5️⃣ Cook with Coconut Milk – Add cleaned dry fish and coconut milk. Cook on medium-low heat for 10 minutes.
